HISTORY
St Luke’s Preschool was first established seventy years ago, in 1953. From establishment, St Luke’s Preschool has been connected to Dapto Anglican Church . The preschool began in a small weatherboard hall located in the community of Dapto. However, as the demand for enrolments increased and reached capacity, the centre underwent various renovations and eventually relocated to the minister’s house in 1960. While this was only a minor move further up the highway, the new location featured two classrooms and offered new learning opportunities to a wider community of children and families.
In 1985, St Luke’s moved to its current location on Moombara Street in Dapto. In addition to a more optimal environment for supporting children’s learning, this relocation allowed the preschool to be located within the Dapto Anglican Church complex, enhancing their connection with the church. While located at Moombara Street, St Luke’s Preschool underwent a demolition and rebuild of the indoor and outdoor environments. These developments began in 1986, with the assistance of volunteers and leaders from Dapto Anglican Church. This created a high quality environment in which learning could take place. However, the learning environments within St Luke’s Preschool are constantly evolving and being improved. In recent years, this has involved the construction of updated offices, a sensory bike track, cubby houses, shade sails and an undercover outdoor space.
